A youthful appearance depends on the lack of fine lines and sagging creases. However, it is essential to remember that, although a multitude of treatments exist to help correct aging skin, it is far easier to prevent wrinkles than it is to treat them.

3 Easy and Effective Ways to Prevent Wrinkles

Wear Sunscreen: The simplest way to fight signs of aging is to wear sunscreen every day. Even in winter, when skies are cloudy and grey, UV rays can harm your skin, causing skin damage and hyper-pigmentation. Incorporate a formula enhanced with antioxidants into your daily routine to protect your skin and enhance your complexion.

Use medical grade skincare: Choosing the right skincare products can be challenging. Look for products with preventative ingredients and formulas that are scientifically proven to improve the look of your skin over time.

Renew Your Skin with Microdermabrasion or a Chemical Peel: Vibradermabrasion, a next-generation skin-renewal technique, provides results after just one treatment. The treatment improves skin’s tone and texture, reducing the appearance of age spots, acne, scars and even fine lines.  A therapeutic chemical peel will also help to smooth your skin, removing damaged outer layers and creating a more even appearance. A therapeutic peel may also minimize pores and reduce facial blemishes.

How to Rejuvenate Your Skin After Signs of Aging Appear

Have you already noticed fine lines around your eyes, or are bothered by the number of dark spots appearing on your face? A wide range of non-surgical skin care procedures exists to help minimize the signs of aging.

Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing, a revolutionary technique that requires fewer treatments and boasts a shorter recovery time, is highly effective at eliminating wrinkles, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, and scars.

If you’re worried about facial lines, BOTOX can help smooth them over. This popular procedure helps eliminates worry lines in the forehead, crow’s feet around the eyes and other signs of aging. Dysport and Xeomin are similar solutions that help treat wrinkled skin.

Volume boosting dermal fillers, including Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero, can help refresh your skin and restore a more youthful appearance.

Hand Skin Resurfacing is a MUST!

Hand Rejuvenation

If you take care of your face with great skincare, chemical peels, Botox, fillers and laser resurfacing but neglect your hands then they will give your age away. Multiple options exist for hand rejuvenation from good skincare, chemical peels,  laser and dermal fillers such as Juvederm.

The loss of collagen and hyaluronic acid in our skin makes the texture of our hands change so that they look dry and withered looking. Years of UV exposure lead to age spots and hyperpigmentation. Loss of fat and hyaluronic acid lead to exposure of veins and tendons.

So what can be used to rejuvenate your hands and remove the telltale signs of aging? Dermal fillers, medical grade skincare, chemical peels, and lasers  are options for hand skin resurfacing.

Dermal Fillers for hand skin resurfacing

First, dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Anteis, Radiesse will bring a youthful volume back. Fillers will fill in the gaps between the tendons and veins so that the hands are no longer old and bony looking. Finer hyaluronic acid injected superficially into the skin, also called mesotherapy will plump up the skin and decrease dryness as the hyaluronic acid pulls water into the skin. The procedure is quick and very effective giving absolutely remarkable hand skin resurfacing results.

Which is Better for You: Restylane or Juvederm?

As far as dermal fillers in Ottawa go, Restylane® and Juvederm ™ are two of the most popular products in Canada. Their popularity is probably due to their ability to effectively achieve desirable results, relatively quickly and safely. They can also treat a variety of aesthetic problems: smoothing out mild to moderate facial wrinkles, augmenting the lips, filling out scars, and changing facial contours like the chin and cheeks – all from a treatment that doesn’t involve incisions and takes less than an hour.

Here are the similarities:

  • Both are in a gel form based on hyaluronic acid, responsible for maintaining volume and moisture levels in the skin.
  • Both come in syringes.
  • Both are injected into the skin.
  • Both come in different intensities, as distinguished by the median size of the gel’s particles and the concentration of hyaluronic acid. The problem determines the intensity.
  • Both achieve temporary results with minimal downtime. Side effects include short lived swelling, irritation and bruising.

And here are the differences:

Restylane®

Restylane® was the first hyaluronic acid based injectable filler approved by the FDA. Introduced to the market back in 2004, the product is a gel composed of microspheres that differ in size according to intensity (larger particles means it’s more intense and can last longer). One syringe contains 1cc.

Results generally last about half a year or more. Juvederm ™, on the other hand, can last anywhere from 3 months or more. However, reports all say something different here – some patients find this injection lasts longer, while others prefer Restylane®. It really depends on the patient, doctor, and problem corrected.

Juvederm

Juvederm ™ is manufactured to be smoother in consistency than Restylane®. Many physicians believe this smooth texture allows it to achieve better results in some areas of the face, particularly the lips. One syringe contains .80cc.

Side effects from a Juvederm ™ injection can last for about 24 hours. On the other hand, many patients find the side effects resulting from Restylane® can last up to 3 days.
