Neck and Chin Rejuvenation Benefits
As we age many of us suffer from a very common aesthetic problem— loosening and discoloration of our neck and chin. Increased wrinkling, laxity, and discoloration of the neck and chin can make us age faster then we’d like. The causes of this are usually multi-factorial and may include hereditary predisposition, excess sun exposure, smoking, excessive drinking, weight loss and weight gain. At Dermaworks Medical Aesthetics Clinic, we have a few options to treat this problem.
One of the more common techniques and procedures involves our Fractional CO2 laser. Under topical anesthesia this laser is used to treat the loose skin and wrinkles of the neck and chin by sending tiny beams of light into the damaged area producing new collagen and elastin while helping with anti-pigmentation and immediate tightening of the neck laxity. There are a few things to note when choosing this as a treatment. Generally, the Fractional CO2 treatment is completed in under an hour but will yield mild to significant downtime. Depending on the aggressiveness of your treatment you may need anywhere from two to ten days off of work. Your skin may feel sensitive and have a red pigmented and swollen appearance. This laser can provide significant improvement in the appearence and quality of neck rejuvenation. To learn more about how our Fractional CO2 laser works, click here.
Other treatments that can be combined with Fractional CO2 include dermal fillers and BOTOX® Cosmetic/Dysport®. When performed properly, patients receive instant gratification with fillers. Dermal fillers work by plumping up the area around the injection site giving you a more youthful appearance. They can be done within half an hour, and offer minimal down time. You’ll be asked to come in half an hour prior to your appointment to have the area being treated frozen with a topical cream. Fillers are temporary, meaning they will degrade or be absorbed over time. Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers have compositions that offer results ranging between eight to twelve months. If you were choosing to pair dermal fillers with Fractional CO2, dermal fillers would be done after you recovered from your laser treatment.
BOTOX® Cosmetic/ Dysport® may be used to soften the neck lines that appear. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are neuromodulators that have the ability to temporarily relax muscles, limiting their ability to fully contract, and effectively smooth and reduce the appearance of lines. While both products share the active ingredient botulinum toxin, the protein structure is slightly different in Dysport®. There is no downtime associated with this procedure, and results can be expected to last anywhere between three-four months. Both treatments yield a very similar anti-aging results.
