What is Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing?
At Dermaworks Medical Aesthetics Clinic we offer one of the most effective laser skin technologies in the industry–Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing with Dermal Optical Thermolysis (DOT) Therapy using the SmartXide DOT™ CO2 laser system. This revolutionary technology not only rejuvenates the skin, eliminating wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, acne and other scars but also has the unique ability to tighten skin! It is the preferred method if you wish to get the most results with one treatment.
The SmartXide DOT™ CO2 laser system emits CO2 laser energy that creates thousands of microscopic perforations (vaporization of the skin) at a controlled depth. This stimulates new collagen growth and promotes tissue coagulation, resulting in skin tightening. Its fractional nature leaves bridges of skin between the vaporized columns of tissue. This helps with the healing process by reducing recovery time and associated risks (particularly unwanted hypo-pigmentation), thereby allowing the skin to heal faster. It is important to keep in mind that this technology is not only used for severe skin issues, in fact some clients simply feel their appearance looks aged and tired.
This is an in-office procedure that requires pre and post-treatment medications to ensure proper healing and comfort during the procedure. For your comfort during the treatment, we may apply a topical freezing anesthetic. After the first day your skin will be extremely red and it is very important to follow the post-treatment instructions given to you by our physician. Upon leaving you will be asked to book a follow-up appointment.
During the first 24 hours post-treatment use ice/cold packs every two hours for 20 minutes maximum for selling and discomfort, cover treated areas with a moisturizing ointment every two hours, and keep your head elevated by using two or more pillows when lying down.
Following treatment normal activities may resume per level of comfort. However, no swimming or using hot tubs/whirlpools while redness is present, usually for at least 24-48 hours. Once you feel comfortable and healed, a normal skin care regime, including makeup or shaving, can be resumed. Mild treatments typically require 1-2 days of downtime (ideally with 3-5 treatments), moderate treatments require 3-5 days (ideally with 2-3 treatments) and more aggressive treatments require 5-7 days of downtime (ideally with 1-2 treatments).
